Louisville, Kentucky Library Floods
The Louisville Free Public Library is under 3 ft. of water this morning after a record-setting thunderstorm yesterday. Mayor Jerry Abramson estimates the damage will reach over $5 million. Librarian and IT Manager Greg Schwartz has been tweeting about it and posting twitpics of the damage. You can help out by donating money here.
One Year Later, Wisconsin Library Still Recovering
After last summer’s flooding in the upper Midwest, the Rock Springs Public Library is still looking for money to get to, at least, pre-disaster condition. Even after benefits and fund-raisers and even contributions from FEMA, the Library has been unable to reopen.
Daytona Beach Library Re-Opens After May Flood
The John H. Dickerson Heritage Library in Daytona Beach, Florida will finally re-open its doors on August 17 after being closed since the flooding on May 20. Serving over 1,000 visitors every week, the library spent about $79,000 to recover from the flood.
Largest Public Library Disaster in U.S. History Still Affects Cedar Rapids
Iowa Governor Chet Culver signed legislation this past May to help with, amongst other things, the construction of a new facility for the Cedar Rapids Public Library. The 85,000 square foot library was flooded June 11-13, 2008, resulting in what is possibly the largest public library disaster in the U.S.
