The popular young adult author was named Queen of Teen 2010

Cathy Cassidy, author of books like Dizzy, Indigo Blue, Scarlett, and Angel Cake, has been named Queen of Teen 2010.

Queen of Teen celebrates the authors of teen fiction who are sometimes overlooked by other awards but who make a real difference to their readers.

Thousands of teenagers from around the globe voted in the competition. Cathy was crowned at a fantastic, all-pink ceremony at Catteshall Manor in Surrey, England. Hundreds of teenagers nominated their favorite authors, and the writers of the most heartfelt nominations got to spend the day with the nominees—which also included Helen Bailey (Electra Brown series), Chris Higgins (Pride and Penalties), Cathy Hopkins (Mates, Dates and… series), Samantha Mackintosh (Kisses for Lula), Sarra Manning (Guitar Girl), Joanna Nadin (My So-Called Life), Sarah Webb (Amy Green series), and the 2009 Queen of Teen Louise Rennison (Angus, Thongs, and Full-Frontal Snogging).

Authors and fans arrived at the ceremony in five stretch limos. Each of the authors was presented with a tiara and pink sash on the Queen of Teen throne before Cathy Cassidy was crowned.

“The connection I have with my fans, some of whom are here today, is a very special privilege, so I’m very, very happy to win this award,” Cathy enthused. “When I was young, I wanted to be a princess, a writer… or a pony! Now I’ve been crowned Queen of Teen, that means two of my dreams have come true.”

Queen of Teen was launched by the Book People in 2008 to celebrate authors who deal with real-life issues in a way that is honest, entertaining, and fun.
