Robert MacNeil of the MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour was on the scene in Dallas when President Kennedy was assassinated.  After shots rang out in Dealey Plaza, MacNeil headed towards the nearest building and encountered a man leaving the Texas School Book Depository. He asked the man where the nearest telephone was and the man pointed and went on his way. MacNeil later learned the man he encountered at about 12:33 p.m. CST may have been Lee Harvey Oswald. According to historian William Manchester, it was Oswald.

Magnum Photos, the photographic cooperative whose members snapped some of the most iconic images of the last half of the 20th century, has sold its archives of 210,000 original press prints to an investment firm that has partnered with the University of Texas at Austin to preserve, catalog, and make accessible the photos.

Author Garry Boulard was researching a biography of Louis Armstrong, but the name Louis Prima kept coming up. Prima, who was born in 1910 in New Orleans, had become a national sensation with his partner Keely Smith in the 1950s and early 60s. StoryCorps, an American oral history project that has recorded more than 30,000 stories in all 50 states, has released an iPhone app, available on the StoryCorps web site or in the iPhone App Store.

The app allows users to take a "humanity break" and listen to Peabody Award-winning StoryCorps audio segments anywhere and anytime.
