Libraries, A Public Place
by Molly Richter
Everyone has walked into a library before. It is a public place, where knowledge is virtually endless. With a library card, you can do research for school, search for old newspaper clippings from all over the world, find romance novels for personal pleasure, and above all, find a quiet place to relax and learn something new.
Kids from all ages can enjoy a public library. Many families cannot afford new books for every child they have, and replace them when the children grow older. Libraries give families a chance to save money, but at the same time, invest in the future of their child. Now not only are books available there, but also resources. Movies, computers, gatherings, readings, and countless other opportunities, give libraries a unique place for children and families to share together. Libraries are always going to be there for families. Families with special and unique needs and families that want a safe place to go with their child.
Libraries are a great resource for a school related project or just to gain more knowledge. The internet can be reliable, but many times it isn’t. When coming to a library, multiple librarians work to help you. They can show you where and how to look up their resources of newspaper articles, new and old alike, as well as their database of online articles. Libraries are almost always up to date with encyclopedias, which they sometimes have the online and text versions, whichever is most convenient for what you need.
Likewise, libraries are full of items for personal pleasure. They have collections of subscribed magazines, novels of all kinds, nonfiction and fiction, self help books, and college level books. There are also different versions of books, whether it is for seeing or hearing impaired individuals, countless movies, and the possibilities are literally endless. The best part of public libraries is the fact that you can check these items out and bring them home for a limited time. Although you pay taxes which pay for libraries that are public, libraries are virtually free to the public.
In conclusion, libraries are a great way to get involved with. Whether it is volunteering, working, or just visiting and using a library, libraries are extremely important in today’s draining society. One always will know that libraries are a comfortable, quiet resource with absolutely endless, and countless possibilities.
