Dreams can come true @ your library
Thirteen year-old Josh Smith’s dream of visiting the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, N.Y., is about to the come true, thanks to a trip to the Haverhill (Mass.) Public Library.
As avid library users and baseball fans, the Smith family discovered the Step Up to the Plate @ your library program while visiting their library this summer. The incentive of a grand-prize trip to the Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum was a big enticement for Smith.
“I have always dreamed of going to Cooperstown,” Smith said upon learning that Hall of Famer Andre Dawson (above) drew his name as the grand-prize winner.
Smith and his family will travel to Cooperstown this weekend for the Hall of Fame’s World Series Gala, an annual celebration of the postseason which features the live broadcast of Game 3 of the Fall Classic in the Museum’s Grandstand Theater. He will also receive a behind-the-scenes tour of the museum and archives.
Throughout the spring and summer, fans of both baseball and libraries participated in Step Up to the Plate @ your library trivia contest. The contest asked players of all ages to use the resources available at their library to answer a series of trivia questions developed by the librarians at the National Baseball Hall Fame and Museum.
