We started the Connect with your kids @ your library campaign with a single question: how can the library help parents spend quality time with their families?

With busy lives and tighter budgets, families might find it difficult to spend the quality time together they’d like to.  Parents are working longer hours, and family activities are becoming luxuries fewer families can afford.

The good news is that your library is here to help.

Libraries are exciting places for fun, free family excursions.  And, with an incredible range of free programs, materials and resources, your library can contribute to your child’s social and emotional development, school readiness and academic achievement.

Every year, there are more than two billion visits to libraries in the United States. More than 8 in 10 Americans agree that libraries provide an important oasis in their lives.  We think you’ll agree.

Start here for inspiration on spending quality time with your family.   In the coming months, we’ll continue to add family activity ideas, but today, start here:

    * Start connecting with your kids today!  Look through the ideas in the Family Activity Guide to find an activity that’s right for your family.
    * Take the Connect with your kids pledge.
    * Look out for the Connect with your kids public service announcements (PSAs) on Lifetime Networks.  You can preview them here.
    * Find us on Facebook and Twitter!   As the campaign unfolds, we’ll continue to provide lots of ideas on spending quality family time together.  And you’ll be the first to hear about special contests and promotions.
