Celebrate Día de los niños/Día de los libros
Today is Día de los niños/Día de los libros, or Children’s Day/Book Day — a nationwide celebration of children, families and reading held annually on April 30th. The day is celebrated to emphasize the importance of literacy in children’s and their family’s lives, and grew from Children’s Day, which began in 1925.
Hundreds of libraries, schools and communities throughout the country will host celebrations and programs that honor multiculturalism and stress the importance of book and literacy. Three states in the U.S. even celebrate on the state level: California, Texas and Florida.
Find out if your library has any special events for Dia, or any weekly or monthly programs for children. Children and teen events and programs at the library are free and fun opportunities for families to bond and learn together— regardless of background, literacy level or heritage.
In most libraries, Spanish speaking users can now find materials in Spanish as well as bilingual staff who can assist them with finding programs and services.
